    Question

Anybody know something about Brecker's condition.
I read this about the Steps Ahead tour:

(The tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker was supposed to tour with the group this summer, but Mr. Maineri read a statement that Mr. Brecker was undergoing treatment for serious health problems. Mr. Brecker's management said yesterday that he had received a diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome, a blood disorder.)

Michael is fine. He has had HepC for quite sometime. Years ago he went through a new treatment that didn't work well for him, and also weakened his bones and their ability to heal themselves. So whenever he deals with an injury, it's intensified. He basically hurt his back, and couldn't do the steps tour.

I posted this a long time ago and this is exactly what Randy Brecker told me when Michael first cancelled the tour. Obviously he's not fine. Michael has HepC. And underwent an aggressive new treatment for it that worked for Mike Stern. It didn't work for Mike. In fact his MDS came out of the failed treatment. That's all I know about it at the moment. I don't want to bother the fmaily with questions at this time.

    From Mike Mainieri's site:
STEPS AHEAD 2005 Summer tour! Dear fans, it's with heavy heart to announce that my co-leader Michael Brecker is ill with a life threatening blood disorder and will not accompany me on this summer tour. Saxophonist Bill Evans will perform the majority of concerts. Bendik Hofseth will be subbing for Bill at three venues. Mike Stern, Richard Bona, Steve Smith are still making the entire tour and we all wish Michael a speedy recovery back to the stage.

Just talked to my saxophonist brother about this and he's quite worried. Michael is his major inspiration.
In fact, he is the Vinnie of sax.

Wishing a quick and full recovery.

I just hope the doctors don't make it worse. I wouldn't be surprised if his blood disease was caused by doctors to begin with.
